Intellectual Wellness

Intellectual wellness refers to active participation in activities that include: scholastic, cultural, and community .  Some key components to creating and maintaining balanced intellectual wellness include:

Openness to new ideas, which can help in maintaining a sense of creativity and curiosity, being motivated to master new skills and seeking out new challenges.

Food for thought: Master a (new) Culinary Skill and Double Dip when it comes to addressing your Wellness!

You do not have to be artistically inclined, just invest in a box of colored pencils or crayons

and a (grown up) coloring book!

As strange as it may seem, coloring is actually a kind of meditation: It calms the mind, occupies the hands and focuses attention on simple, repetitive tasks. This level of concentration creates a state of peace, blocking out negative or intrusive thoughts and the additional benefits of mental and physical wellness!

It makes no difference whether you are playing alone or you are playing with others. As long as your mind is thinking, improvements are being made.

Being able to identify your feelings and understanding yourself more and your actions increase intellectual wellness by exposing your mind to deeper thinking.

Do crossword or sudoku puzzles
Crosswords and Sudoku are leisure activities that have proved to increase intellectual wellness.

Listen to music
Studies have shown that even listening to music can increase competency in math. These cognitive skills use similar parts of the brain. As our minds work to make sense of the music, our brains are working to!

Read something every day
It does not have to be educational, it can be entertaining too! No matter what you may be reading—a magazine article, a newspaper story, or even an indulgent romance novel—you are exercising and strengthening communication among the synapses in your brain.
