Bliggity Blogging

IMG_0001

So, we have a blog(site) and I have had “writer’s block” for, well since we set it up.  Myself and Kate, we have been “planning” to get more posts up, more frequently and consistently.  This has triggered a whole lot of thoughts, which is good (I hope) because I can blog them :-0 and hopefully, they will be of some interest to you, Dearest Readers!

Here are some of my thoughts as I try to think about bliggity blogging:

* I am not an author or what I would call a professional blogger , the last time I experienced anything close to”writer’s block” was when I had to write a paper for school.  Although, if I start thinking about letters to friends and family, be it via email or “snail mail”, I come to a realization that the block goes beyond a blog or a paper.

* In a world where some people share every facet of their lives in 140 characters or less on Twitter, I pause to reflect how much detail I actually put into recent correspondence with friends and family via email.  I have blamed a few things for not writing much or often: arthritis in my hands )my hands and the rest of me) are tired after working on patients)  I am emotionally and mentally spent and I am not sure what to share or sometimes even how to respond to a letter I have received.

* We have phones that we cannot and will not leave home without,  but we do not want to answer them most times. To be honest, I would rather talk on the phone with most of people, but then there is always something going on, usually on both ends that makes it next to impossible to do so uninterrupted. So, someone fires off a text.

* Most phones have cameras that are better than the best camera I have ever owned.  I was never good at remembering to send out a recent family photo (much less take one) but I take pictures of the furry kids all the time.  And how convenient is it to flip that over to most any social media source for anyone you want (and sometimes do not want) to see?

* Which leads me to Selfies and Selfie sticks (unfortunate name I think and WHY COULD I NOT HAVE BEEN THE INVENTOR?!?)  I think selfie sticks are ridiculous for the average person (and I see teens with them alot), I cannot help but to feel that in an already self centered society that the popularity of selfies is exhausting.

* Is there anyone alive who remembers the longest amount of time it would have taken to mail a letter from the U.S. A. to someone else in the U.S.A. and have the recipient have it in their hands?  Think about how long it would have taken to have someone receive a letter over seas!

Today, within seconds we can convey thoughts, feelings and opinions to anyone and in masses!

* Opinions, every has them!  Blogging provides a means of sharing them.  With FB and Twitter and texting on our phones that are practically implanted, we can share an opinion faster than we can catch our breath after blurting something out.  I am not sure that everyone that is a FB Friend needs to know all of my opinions but I will stand up for my right to post it on my personal page.

* Video games , social media and current technology : I will summarize some thoughts from a few people, “… to most kids and teens, they are like rock and roll was to kids and teens was back when Rock and Roll was born. They loved it, the adults could not understand it….”.

I listened to heavy metal, my parents DID NOT get it.  Enjoy this gem from Jim Breuer, as his bit conveys some of the thoughts I have had!

I actually imagine texting my senior citizen friends after my grand kid’s visit about how annoying they were for giving me a hard time about my music 😉

* Technology and Social Media, cannot live with it, cannot live without it.

I do appreciate it.  We are electing to build and grow our business through it.  It has bridged a gap in some ways with friends and family that I do not get to see or speak to often. I have found it useful for CEU’s for massage therapy.

But we would like for you to know, that behind the posts of FB and Twitter, there are two people who are just trying to figure it all out.  We have been inspired by other bloggers and we strive to get to a point where we can provide content to that is interesting to someone.. several someones.

We do not claim to be experts and when we talk about creating balance, we are hoping that what we share helps to create some balance for someone else.  You may find a green, clean recipe via our page one day and two days later we are talking about bacon chocolate chip cookies.

So, in this world of technology and social media, create your balance.  Step back and ask yourself if how you use it and view it is a help or a hindrance to you and your well being.  Is it taking the place of human interaction?  Are you working 24/7 in spite of the fact that you tell yourself you are not?  Is it a distraction during dinner,  sleep time, etc. ?

Onward and Upward,

Dawn
